For the first time in nearly 50 years, Democrats are poised to take control of the Onondaga County Legislature. Democrats are on the verge of flipping the legislature from Republican control Tuesday in a remarkable upset of decades of established county politics. The Dems flipped a handful of Republican seats. Democrats won nine of the 17 seats on the legislature and had solid leads in one more. Nine seats are enough for a majority. Three of the seats Democrats have already won were held by Republican incumbents. Democratic candidates gathered at Harvey’s Garden in Syracuse to celebrate. Democrats would be claiming a majority on the legislature for the first time since the late 1970s.
