Delhi Man’s Air Purifiers Jump From 97 To 500 AQI Within Seconds After Opening Door: ‘Feels Like Chernobyl Scene’

Every winter, Delhi NCR turns into a gas chamber of smog that forces people to rely on air purifiers just to breathe a little easier indoors. But a recent video shared by a Delhi-based market analyst has shown how even those purifiers are struggling to keep the toxic air out. The video captures what happens inside a home when the outside air gets in. Despite having four purifiers running day and night, the air quality index (AQI) reading inside the man’s home went from safe to dangerous in mere seconds after he opened his main door. The clip has sparked widespread outrage online with people expressing disbelief over how fast the numbers jumped. From Safe To Hazardous In Just Seconds In the short video, the man is seen opening his main door and turning the camera towards a running air purifier. The display initially shows a reading of 97 that indicates clean or breathable air indoors. But within seconds of the door being left open, the reading shoots beyond 500. Along with the clip, he wrote, “4 purifier running 24×7 at home. Reading while all doors are closed – 100. Just opened main door and touched – 500. Life has become hell in NCR and govt is busy in Bihar campaign.” Watch The Clip Here 4 purifier running 24×7 at home Reading while all doors are closed – 100 Just opened main door and touched – 500 Life become hell in NCR and govt is busy in bihar campaign. pic.twitter.com/7b5Zg3QXea — Kapil Dhama (@kapildhama) November 1, 2025 Anger And Fear Online The post has crossed over two lakh views and gathered hundreds of comments. People said it shows how helpless Delhi residents feel every winter. One user commented, “NCR’s air quality is turning homes into gas chambers, while politicians chase votes elsewhere. How bad does it need to get before tackling pollution becomes a real priority? Waiting for clean air shouldn’t be a luxury!” Another said, “Very unfortunate, be ready for more than a decade of sickness in the later years.” Someone advised, “Just go out of Delhi for 2-3 weeks. This is extremely dangerous situation.” “I don’t know why Supreme Court not taking suo moto, clean air is a fundamental right of citizens,” a person wrote. ‘Feels Like Living In Chernobyl’ Many expressed anger at the government saying they have stopped expecting real solutions. An individual wrote, “Govt will always remain busy either in pre-election campaigning or post-election partying & making things good for them. No one thinks about the core problem of pollution. Except for few that too for few days or some bizarre solution. Things why I avoid Delhi.” A viewer suggested, “Government should provide tax rebate on air purifier purchases.” “Anyone who wants to understand the gravity of health hazard in Delhi must watch this video,” read another comment. More remarks followed such as, “This is like the Chernobyl scene!” “Air quality battles no one wins” and “Yikes this looks like deep threat to lives.” Another Post Shows The Other Extreme While this video captured the grim side of Delhi’s air crisis, another post on Reddit has also been drawing attention. In that post, a user shared a photo of their air purifier screen. They claimed that the AQI inside their room dropped to just 1 after installing two purifiers together.
