In an alleged case of medical negligence, a 26-year-old woman in Dehradun died due to an infection reportedly caused by a bandage left inside her abdomen during childbirth at a private hospital. Authorities in the city have launched an investigation into the death, officials said on Wednesday. A four-member inquiry panel, led by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Manoj Sharma, has been constituted to probe the case. The action follows a complaint lodged by the woman’s husband, Prajjwal Pal, news agency PTI reported. According to the complaint, Jyoti Pal underwent a cesarean delivery at the Eye and Mother Care Centre in Dehradun in January this year. It is alleged that the attending doctors left a surgical bandage inside her abdomen before stitching up the incision. In the days following the surgery, Jyoti reportedly began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Despite returning to the same hospital for treatment, doctors were unable to identify the cause of her condition. As her health deteriorated further, she was taken to another hospital, where tests revealed that a bandage had been left inside her body, leading to a severe infection. Despite efforts to save her, Jyoti succumbed to the infection.
