DCC, GCC set for final 2-day showdown as busy weekend of GCA cricket unfolds

The spotlight will be on the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) this weekend as two of the country’s most storied clubs, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), face off in the highly anticipated GISE Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall First Division Two-Day Grand Final. The clash, which bowls off today at 9:00 am at DCC, promises a gripping battle between bat and ball, with both teams fielding lineups stacked with experience and youthful talent. Over the years, encounters between these two powerhouses have been fiercely contested, and this weekend’s final is expected to be no different as they vie for top honours in the city’s premier two-day competition. The historic rivalry adds extra weight to the showdown, with home advantage giving DCC a slight edge, though GCC’s depth and proven ability to perform under pressure will make them formidable opponents. The two-day format is expected to test not only skill but endurance, strategy, and discipline across all departments. While the final takes centre stage over the weekend, Sunday’s fixture list also features a trio of key matchups in other GCA tournaments. In the Dave West Indian Inc. First Division 50-overs competition, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will take on Transport Sports Club at GCC, starting at 9:00 am. Also on Sunday, the NBS Second Division 40-overs competition will see Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) up against Eldorado at Queen’s College Ground from 10:30 am. Meanwhile, in the GCA/Georgetown City Cricket Cup Mayor’s U17 Hundred-overs encounter (55/45 format), Bel Air Rubis will face Everest at Malteenoes Sports Club from 9:00 am. With multiple competitions unfolding, this weekend offers a packed schedule for cricket fans in the city, with the marquee final at DCC setting the tone for an exciting two days of action.
