This loss confirmed a 6-1 aggregate defeat following their 1-0 loss at home in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium the previous week. Wydad showcased their class and experience from the outset, taking control of the match and opening the scoring early. Kotoko momentarily raised hopes through captain Samba O’Neil’s towering header in the 19th minute that levelled the scoreline at 1-1 on the night. However, this inspired the Moroccan side to accelerate their attack and dominate the rest of the game. The Moroccans then unleashed a ruthless scoring spree, with Hamza Hannouri, Stephane Aziz Ki, Thembinkosi Lorch, Oussama Zemraoui, and Mohammed Bouchouari all finding the back of the net. Wydad’s relentless pace, technical skill, and clinical finishing proved too much for the Ghanaian visitors, who struggled to keep up throughout the match. For Kotoko, the aggregate defeat is a sobering reminder of the level required to compete successfully in African club football.
