The Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, on Sunday presided over a meeting regarding review of monthly performance of Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and the District Disease Surveillance Programme (DDSP) Saturday at Darbar Hall. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the EPI, instructing focal person to strengthen the immunization program to protect mothers and children from preventable diseases. He directed that all vaccinators at health centers must ensure accurate data reporting; otherwise, action will be taken against those submitting incorrect or fabricated figures. The DC stressed that special attention should be given to immunization efforts so that no child in the district remains deprived of essential vaccines. He highlighted that mother and child health programs are among the top priorities of Sindh Government and negligence regarding staff attendance, vaccination coverage, or data accuracy will not be tolerated. The Deputy Commissioner urged health officials to activate Union Council-level committees and hold monthly meetings to improve vaccination coverage. While reviewing the performance of Lady Health Workers, the DC directed them to visit households to raise awareness among mothers about immunization, nutrition, family planning and disease prevention. He also stressed the need to strengthen monitoring system for Lady Health Workers. Speaking about the District Disease Surveillance Program, DC said that in view of potential outbreaks of dengue, malaria, polio, and hepatitis, the reporting system must be made more effective to ensure early detection and timely response. He added that interdepartmental coordination is essential for public health initiatives and called upon all departments to work in coordination for the welfare of people. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed officers to conduct field visits, personally monitor activities and submit regular performance reports to make Shaheed Benazirabad a model district in terms of health indicators. During meeting, focal persons from EPI, District Disease Surveillance, and Lady Health Workers programs presented detailed briefings on their respective areas of work.
