Months after reports of a split between actor David Harbour and singer Lily Allen, the vocalist released her new album, West End Girl, on Friday. Allen released her fifth studio album after a seven-year hiatus. In her recent interview with British Vogue, the singer revealed that her album is "inspired" by the recent happenings in her life.Lily Allen appeared in several interviews in the wake of her recent album release. Allen also sat for a candid conversation with Interview magazine. The magazine published an interview on October 28 in which the Smile hitmaker discussed her album. The next day, Interview published a more unvarnished conversation with Allen for its "Seek Help" column.Lily Allen was asked about the "best way to hook up with a celebrity." The singer did not hold back and offered some tips."Well, I’ve only done this a couple of times, and it’s been quite meticulously planned, so you have to kind of find yourself in a place where the celebrity thinks that they are discovering you, not the other way around," Allen stated. So I made sure that I was at this festival and that I would be one of the very few English-speaking people at the same festival as him, which I guess made me interesting. Replying to the interviewer, the vocalist said, "it isn't."She added that she felt different when she recorded this album, and that her feelings about the situation have since changed. Lily Allen further explained her current mindset on the situation and said,"That’s what’s fun about this record; it’s viscerally like going through the motions. At the time, I was really trying to process things and that’s great in terms of the album, but I don’t feel confused or angry now. I don’t need revenge."The interviewer followed up with a question and asked if Lily Allen was "just telling a story" with West End Girl. The singer responded, saying,"Well, some of it is based on truth and some of it is fantasy."The singer further described the process of writing her latest record. She called the process "maniac.""I was vaping and smoking cigarettes at the time, so it was a Parliament Light in one hand, a vape in the other, and lots of crying, lots of storytelling. I was processing a long relationship, and so things I hadn’t really considered before were coming up," she added.Lily Allen shared that it was important to her not to "sound like a victim," and hence she insisted on changing several lines in the album. She wanted her album to feel "brutal and tragic" while sounding "empowering" at the same time.
