Daisy May Cooper has revealed the future of This Country (Picture: BBC) Beloved This Country star Daisy May Cooper has poured cold water on hopes of a reboot of the cult BBC comedy. Sure to devastate fans, she revealed that her transformation since the series ended would make it impossible to revisit her breakout character, Kerry Mucklowe. Speaking to Radio Times alongside her brother and co-star Charlie Cooper about their brand-new comedy NightWatch, Daisy joked that a This Country return would be far-fetched for very practical reasons. ‘We can’t do This Country, though, because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve had my lips done,’ she said. She continued, joking: ‘We’d have to say that Kerry’s had a tapeworm and been stung by a bee.’ The BAFTA-winning siblings, who created and starred in the mockumentary about small-town life in the Cotswolds, are reuniting for NightWatch, a new comedy series that swaps village halls for nocturnal adventures. Their chemistry has long been a family affair – though Daisy admitted their dad hasn’t quite inherited the same writing chops. The pair first rose to fame as Kerry Mucklowe and Lee ‘Kurtan’ Mucklowe in This Country (Picture: BBC / Inez Gordon) ‘He’s out of control,’ she laughed. ‘He’s written a script about a carvery and he left it for me to read and I honestly thought my seven-year-old daughter had written it. I was gonna say to her, “Babe, this isn’t good enough.”‘ While This Country remains one of the most beloved British comedies of recent years, Daisy’s comments unfortunately make it clear that a revival isn’t on the cards any time soon. Between her Hollywood ventures and Charlie’s new creative projects, the Coopers seem ready to carve out the next chapter of their careers — even if Kerry and Kurtan stay firmly in the past. Still, for fans of This Country’s blend of deadpan humour and sibling chaos, NightWatch promises to deliver plenty of that same offbeat magic. Got a story?
