DA alleges some ANC members ‘support’ scrapping of BEE

The Democratic Alliance (DA) believes that there are some within the African National Congress (ANC) who support ending the government’s Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policy. Speaking at the unveiling of a billboard in Johannesburg, urging voters to reject the policy, the DA says it will be pushing to have its Economic Inclusion for All Bill accepted as an alternative. “BEE has become nothing but state-sponsored corruption. The various Commissions of Inquiries and the Auditor General of South Africa have fully documented the abuse of state resources through the public procurement process.” – Dr Ivan Meyer#DAatWork pic.twitter.com/SPzccscYwr — Democratic Alliance (@Our_DA) October 28, 2025 📢 The DA is taking decisive action to empower people, not politicians! DA Policy Head Mat Cuthbert says the proposed legislation will then be debated in Parliament, after which it will embark on a process of negotiation with other parties to get it passed. “Now, I think in the case of the ANC, we’ve seen a number of interesting things since the launch of the bill last week. We’ve seen a number of leaks in the Sunday Times, and we’ve seen in the City Press that there are a number of ANC NEC members who are undecided at this stage, but think that there needs to be true reform of empowerment policy. Because it’s failed to uplift the vast majority of South Africans. I think that shows that the ANC’s outward opposition is not necessarily a sentiment that is shared internally,” adds Cuthbert.
