Hyderabad: Heavy rain triggered by the Cyclone Montha has disrupted life in several districts in the state, killing at least one person, submerging roads and railway tracks, marooning people and blacking out villages. Kalleda in Parvathagiri mandal in Warangal district was the worst hit in the state as it recorded a maximum rainfall of 340 mm by Wednesday evening.According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), several locations in Warangal, Jangaon, Hanamkonda districts received maximum rainfall. The South Central Railway (SCR) in an advisory asked people to avoid non-essential travel to areas hit by the cyclone owing to flooding in the state. As flooding crippled railway connectivity in the state, the SCR has also cancelled or diverted several trains, including the Golconda Express.On Thursday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over Telangana. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu districts of Telangana.According to IMD Telangana, Siddipet, Hanmakonda, Warangal, Mahbubabad, Jangaon and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri remained the most-affected districts. Orange alert was issued for Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Peddapalle, Bhupallapally, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla and Suryapet. A 45-year old Kota Lakshminarayana died following uprooting of a massive tree at Chandupatla village in Suryapet district. A bridge in Gudipalli was submerged in Devarakonda mandal of Nalgonda district, leaving several commuters stranded and impacting transport and cutting off connectivity between villages.Several students were stranded in tribal welfare residential school at Kommapally in Devarakonda mandal after heavy rain flooded the school. Police officials intervened and rescued the children with the help of ropes and other equipment. People reportedly rescued a man with the help of ropes at Veereshittipalli bridge in Vikarabad in Rangareddy district. Visuals of a goods truck in Khammam district getting washed away along with the driver went viral on social media. Similarly, another vehicle got washed away in the Nimmavagu stream at Jannaram village in Enkoor mandal, as the driver attempted to cross the low-lying bridge.In Nagarkurnool district, overflowing streams and breached embankments have caused isolation of several villages, including Pulicherla and Uppununthala, where 20.8 cm of rain was recorded overnight. Floodwaters surged into homes and an electricity sub-station, plunging remote hamlets into darkness. In places where flooding was witnessed locals waded through abdomen deep waters to reach relief camps.
