(CNS): Two women ended up in hospital on Saturday night with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening after a pedestrian was knocked down in East End. A woman who was driving a Honda Fit hit a pedestrian at about 9:30pm on Sea View Road, by Welcome Way. Following the collision, the driver was assaulted by a group of people who were at the nearby Pirates Cove Bar. The group damaged the car and assaulted the woman. She was, however, taken to safety by other members of the public until the police arrived. Both women were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries, and the driver was breath-tested with a negative result. Police have not yet revealed what caused the collision with the pedestrian, but the woman has not been arrested, and they raised their concerns about the attack on her. “There is no place for these types of actions in our community,” said Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown. “We do not tolerate members of the public attacking and assaulting others. This matter will be investigated thoroughly and persons involved prosecuted. Likewise, the circumstances of the collision are being investigated, and any offences found will be prosecuted, according to the law.” Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision and subsequent assault to contact the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
