Cowboys’ Massive Salary Cap Space Could Lead to Major Moves

The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for “Monday Night Football,” but the real action might be happening off the field. As the NFL trade deadline looms, the Cowboys have become one of the hottest topics across the league — thanks to a combination of buzzworthy rumors and serious financial flexibility. With $31.5 million in available cap space, owner Jerry Jones is in position to make a major move before the clock hits 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Cowboys Linked to Big Names Like Trey Hendrickson and Maxx Crosby Dallas has been tied to some of the biggest defensive names in football over the past few weeks, including Cincinnati Bengals star Trey Hendrickson and Las Vegas Raiders standout Maxx Crosby. Both are elite pass rushers who could instantly boost a Cowboys defense still trying to find its rhythm. While speculation around those players had quieted down earlier this month, it reignited over the weekend following losses by both teams. After the Bengals’ defeat, reports surfaced that they were open to trading Hendrickson — and that the Cowboys had “made a call.” Hours later, according to Sports Illustrated, Crosby sent out a cryptic social media post after the Raiders’ overtime loss, sparking fresh rumors that he could be on the move. Jones has a history of teasing fans with big trade talk that never quite materializes, but this year feels different. The Cowboys not only have the motivation — they have the money to back it up. Dallas Cowboys Among NFL Leaders in Cap Space Before Trade Deadline According to Spotrac, the Cowboys enter the trade deadline with $31.5 million in available salary cap space — second-most in the league behind only the New England Patriots at $54.4 million. The Washington Commanders are the only other team with more than $25 million available, followed by the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers. For years, Jones has blamed the salary cap for limiting his ability to chase big names after signing Dak Prescott to a long-term deal. But that excuse doesn’t hold up in 2025. This roster has financial breathing room, and the timing couldn’t be better. Crosby is signed to a three-year, $106.5 million extension with Las Vegas, and Hendrickson is expected to command a major payday in his next contract. Still, the Cowboys’ cap space makes either move possible if Jones decides to go all-in. With Dallas (3-4-1) hosting the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) on “Monday Night Football,” the timing could be perfect. The Cowboys remain undefeated at home this season and are looking to bounce back from a 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos. Arizona, meanwhile, has dropped five straight Arizona has won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams, including three straight on the road. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
