Coronation Street’s Asha receives help and support from very unexpected source

Asha Alahan has had a difficult few months (Picture: Danielle Baguley/Shutterstock) Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) has been having a tough time in recent Coronation Street scenes, but she looks set to get help from an unexpected source. Her troubles began earlier this year while on shift as a paramedic, where she faced cruel treatment from a woman she was trying to help. The woman, Naomi, made derogatory comments before spitting at Asha, leaving her traumatised. Things only got worse when she later bumped into Naomi and confronted her for her behaviour, with the woman flat-out denying everything. While Asha made a formal report to the police, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) committed to her own form of payback, which resulted in Naomi threatening to sue her. In a bid to put an end to the whole ordeal, Asha agreed to drop the charges against Naomi in return for her dropping her civil suit. Asha confronted Naomi about her actions (Picture: ITV) However, the incident had really affected Asha, and as she struggled in the aftermath, she ended up attempting to take her own life. Thankfully, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) found her and managed to get her help in time, and she was eventually discharged from hospital and back to a concerned Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) care. Things have been tense between the father and daughter, with Asha refusing to let him fork out for mental health treatment for her. It is clear that Dev is out of his depth, and has struggled with knowing what to say to Asha. Dev Alahan hasn’t been coping well (Picture: ITV) Fortunately, in upcoming scenes, Asha finds an unexpected person she can turn to. The paramedic finds herself struggling next week as she helps with party preparations for the quads’ birthdays. When Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) finds her outside, she opens up to her step-sister about her battle with depression, and how she learnt to overcome her dark thoughts. Asha is grateful for Gemma’s advice, but once alone, she hears Naomi’s voice and relives her trauma. Maggie Driscoll encourages Asha to open up (Picture: ITV) It is then that Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), who is set to move into the Rovers next week, finds Asha and encourages her to share her troubles. As Maggie gently coaxes her through a series of questions, Asha opens up about her work as a paramedic and her recent suicide attempt. Having listened to Asha, Maggie points out that she must have dealt with patients in similar situations during her time as a paramedic, and encourages her to show herself the same kindness she would show them. It is clear that Maggie’s words strike a chord with Asha, but will they help her in the long run?
