Cops send file on fatal Parika ebike crash to DPP

Regional Commander of Regional Division Three Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine told the Stabroek News that the file on the investigation surrounding the circumstances of the death of eight-year-old Supriya Khan was to be sent to the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice yesterday regarding charges against the driver. Khan died following a collision on September 19, 2025 between motor-pickup GAB 8162 and an e-Bike on which she was a pillion rider. Supriya’s mother, Ramona Rackbar, told Stabroek News yesterday that she and her husband, Imran Khan were still coming to terms with her death. “We’re still in shock not wanting to believe that our beautiful girl is gone forever and not coming back home,” she said. Supriya was a student of the Parika Back Primary School and was described as a bright, bubbly and well-loved pupil. The mother stressed that she was concerned because she was informed by the police that the driver had been released on station bail since September 22 and the police could not charge him until legal advice was received from the DPP. “He’s still on the road walking and doing what he usually does; the police said that they can’t charge him because they have to wait for the DPP to get back to them first,” she said. When asked about her next move, the mother said, “We going to the Leonora Police Station… to collect the papers that shows how bad the e-Bike damage.” Education Minister Sonia Parag, who had visited the mourning family, had noted that Supriya had been just picked up from school by her 32-year-old father when their electronic bike was hit by an overtaking motorcar, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education. A police release had stated that the fatal accident occurred at about 3.05 pm and involved motor pick-up GAB 8162, driven by 22-year-old Arif Alli of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, and an electric cycle, operated by Imran Khan with his daughter who was the pillion rider. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the electric cycle was proceeding east along the road when the pick-up which was proceeding in the same direction struck it. Breathalyser tests conducted on 22-year-old Alli showed his blood alcohol content at 128% and 134%.
