Congress objects to holding Assembly session on Saturday

The Congress has objected to the decision to convene a session of the Assembly on November 1 a Saturday. Congress Parliamentary Party secretary A.P. Anil Kumar MLA has written to Speaker A.N. Shamseer saying that the decision to hold the 15th session of the 15th Kerala Assembly on Saturday violates Rule 13(2) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. At the one-day session, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to make a statement under Rule 300 regarding ‘Kerala free from extreme poverty,’ the List of Business of the House for Saturday said. There is no precedent of having sittings on Saturday and Sunday without the prior sanction of the House, Mr. Anil Kumar said. He has demanded a ruling from the Speaker on this matter. Rule 13(2) says, ‘Unless the Assembly otherwise determines, there shall be no sittings on Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays.’
