Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly declared that Saturday, November 1 will be an official paid holiday for all employees in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies, to celebrate the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, Mohamed al-Homosany, said that this move came under the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to enable relevant state agencies and authorities to smoothly organize the movements of foreign delegations participating in this grand event. It also allows more Egyptians to follow the events of the highly anticipated celebration, which will see a large number of kings, heads of state, and officials from several countries, in addition to prominent dignitaries, expected to participate. Development work intensifies Giza Governor Adel al-Naggar said that development and beautification work has been intensified on several roads and highways surrounding the museum. This is in addition to improving the efficiency of the streets leading to and surrounding the Pyramids area as part of an integrated plan aimed at enhancing the cultural landscape, he explained. The development and upgrading work includes main routes for the movement of official and tourist delegations and visitors to the area during the museum’s opening events, ensuring it appears at a suitable cultural level, Naggar said. He also announced the allocation of large screens in squares and main streets across the governorate to allow citizens to witness the celebration of the opening of the GEM by displaying the official promo and logo for the event, and broadcasting the opening proceedings live. Cairo readies for the event Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber confirmed that the governorate’s executive bodies are upgrading the Cairo Airport Road in preparation for receiving guests at GEM inauguration. Saber noted that the efficiency-enhancing efforts included increasing green spaces, developing the landscape, and reviewing the lighting to ensure it maintains a suitable, civilized appearance. He explained that the governorate is continuing its promotional campaign for the opening of the GEM, which began with the placement of advertising billboards on 100 buses belonging to the Public Transport Authority.
