Commanders' Playoff Odds Take Massive Hit After Jayden Daniels Injury News

The Washington Commanders (3-4) will travel on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs (4-3) on "Monday Night Football" without franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels suffered a low-grade right hamstring strain late in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and while an MRI showed no long-term structural damage, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that he won't be available for Week 8. Daniels has already missed two games this season with a left knee strain and now faces his third missed start in eight games this season. Immediately after the news broke that Daniels would be out, Polymarket reported that the Commanders' odds to make the playoffs have dropped to a mere 23%. He won multiple honors, including the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, a Pro Bowl nod and even earned some votes for league MVP, leading Washington to its first NFC Championship game since 1991. Through five starts this season, Daniels has 1,031 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception, plus 211 rushing yards and one rushing TD. Those numbers emphasize why the Commanders remain committed to him as the franchise signal caller and why their odds to make the postseason dropped so much after the recent injury update. Read More: Jonathan Taylor Closing in on Edgerrin James’ Historic Colts Record Washington enters Week 8 of the season with a 3-4 record, which puts them behind both the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) and Dallas Cowboys (3-3-1) and just one game ahead of the New York Giants (2-5) within the NFC East division. They're currently on the outside of the playoff picture, and on Tuesday, ESPN gave them a mere 2% chance of making the Super Bowl, something they were just one game away from doing a year ago. Their remaining schedule is no cakewalk either. After the Chiefs, the Commanders head back home to play the Seattle Seahawks (5-2) before a date with the Detroit Lions (5-2) on Nov. 9.
