COLUMBIA — Outdoor retailer Sierra has opened its third South Carolina store at the Columbiana Station shopping center in northwest Columbia. The Massachusetts-based company pitches itself as offering affordable prices, saying on its website that it keeps prices low by buying unsold or discontinued goods as well as items with minor flaws from manufacturers. Besides the new store in Columbia’s Harbison district, Sierra also has locations in Greenville and Anderson that opened last year. “We’re excited to bring Sierra’s off-price shopping experience to Columbia residents following the warm welcome in Greenville at the end of last year,” Amanda Johnson, Sierra’s assistant vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “At Sierra, our goal is to help individuals enjoy their active lifestyles stress-free. With incredible prices on premium apparel, footwear and gear, Sierra allows people to embrace the activities they love most while staying true to their budget.” Many national retailers have chosen the Harbison area for their Columbia stores, a corridor brokers have called one of the Midlands’ strongest retail hubs. Major national apparel and sporting-goods chains in the district include Academy Sports + Outdoors, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Kohl’s and Jos. A. Bank.
