Colts QB Daniel Jones snaps back at doubters after win over Chargers

Few would've predicted the kind of season Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones is having, and the former first-round pick isn't shy about telling his doubters they were wrong. Jones even went as far as to snap back at those who might be surprised by how his team is playing so far this season following Indianapolis' latest win, a 38-24 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Daniel Jones never put stock into what critics said When asked what he would like to say to those who didn't expect much from Jones and the Colts, Jones smiled and responded with a "sounds y'all didn't know much" response during an interview with CBS Sports before leaving the field. "We're just going to keep going, keep working. And we have a lot of confidence. I think we've got a lot of good players and guys who work hard and do the right things," Jones added. Jones made those comments after completing 23-of-34 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers. Jones has every right to enjoy what's unfolding in a season most had every reason to doubt would be possible. He is not even a full season removed from being dumped by the New York Giants, who drafted him with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. There was reason to doubt Daniel Jones In six seasons with the Giants, Jones only exceeded 3,000 passing yards twice and never came close to approaching his single-season high of 24 touchdown passes again after his rookie year. The Giants' best record in any season with Jones under center was 9-6-1 in 2022. Despite New York's financial investment, Jones was benched and then subsequently granted his release in the middle of his final season with the Giants in 2024. He then had to fight to make the Minnesota Vikings' active roster in last November. Daniel Jones may have found his true NFL home in Indianapolis Fortunately for Jones, the Colts were in search of a veteran quarterback to push Anthony Richardson. The idea was for Jones to help mentor Richardson, with few expecting him to win the job, let alone lead the Colts to a winning season. However, Jones' play and his team's success has made it so there's now a possibility that he could still become a franchise quarterback in the NFL, even if he had to leave the team that drafted him to make that happen. So far though seven games, Jones has completed exactly 71% of his passes and thrown for 1,790 yards with 10 touchdowns. Most importantly, he has taken care of the football and only thrown three interceptions. Can Jones continue to shift the narrative by keeping this up throughout the entire season? Only time will tell, but there's no reason to doubt that he can pull it off anymore.
