Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently appeared on the “ALL THE SMOKE” podcast. He discussed the challenge of balancing his demanding career as a top champion with his role as a father, especially with a newborn at home. Rhodes spoke about the inherent difficulty of finding a true work-life balance. “I remember hearing somebody saying, there really is no such thing as the balance, you either doing one or you’re doing the other,” Rhodes said. He explained his efforts to be present for his family despite the schedule. “I have really tried everything I can to bring it together… I don’t mind going in on the PJ that gets me home at three in the morning versus showing up at 5pm the next day. I just try to be there at the breakfast table for my oldest daughter”. Rhodes continued, stating that WWE now makes it easier for families to travel together, which is a significant change from previous eras. “You got guys who’ve got tour busses now, and those are mini homes so you can have your life”. He then explained that this pace cannot last forever. He specifically wants to be present for his children as they grow older and reach school age. “You get to a point where there’s only so much… you can only go so long,” he said. “And I think I know my number where I’d like to get with this”. Rhodes compared his goal to that of his father, the late Dusty Rhodes. His father stepped away from active competition to become a full-time parent. “I was lucky that my dad… he was out of the game. He was in it as a producer… but he was out of the game, so he was number one dad at every game.” He elaborated on his father’s presence during his childhood. “He coached our football team… I’d like to make it by the time they hit that age that I’m not I’m not going that often”. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the company that has defined his career. “It’s the house that built me and it’s the house that brought me back and put me in this wonderful, wonderful position”.
