Homi Adajania, who is currently in the spotlight for his upcoming film Cocktail 2, has expressed his excitement for Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend. The director recently took to social media to shower praise for the project, saying he “can’t wait” to watch Rashmika’s performance in the film. Taking to his Instagram stories, director Homi Adajania shared the poster of The Girlfriend and wrote, “After all we’ve heard can’t wait to see this.” Directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend also stars Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini in key roles. After a steady start, the Telugu drama saw a sharp rise on Day 2 — proof that strong word-of-mouth can still draw crowds. With viewers praising Rashmika’s heartfelt performance and the film’s emotional depth, The Girlfriend has clearly struck a chord. As per early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 1.3 crore on Friday (Day 1) and climbed to Rs 2.5 crore on Saturday (Day 2) — a jump of over 92%. This strong weekend momentum signals that The Girlfriend is steadily building its base through glowing reviews and audience appreciation. The film’s overall occupancy rate stood at 30.79%, with stronger footfall as the day progressed. Morning shows reported 17.32%, which grew steadily to 33.44% in the afternoon, before peaking during the evening (33.84%) and night shows (38.55%). Earlier, the team was spotted filming in Sicily, Italy, where they were seen having some fun moments on set. Apart from Rashmika, the film also features Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. Helmed by Homi Adajania, the spiritual successor to the 2012 film Cocktail, featuring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. While the official release date has not yet been announced, it is expected to be released in the latter half of 2026. Cocktail 2 is expected to follow a similar Love-triangle concept as the first part.
