Co-op has shared plans to reduce the price of baked goods by 50 per cent every day at one specific time in a bid to reduce food waste. The supermarket will be rolling out the initiative at over 2,000 UK stores every day at 6pm, with the deal applying to a whole host of items. Both loose and unpackaged bakery items are included in the offer, which will provide shoppers with goods priced as low as 50p in store after 6pm. This bargain will then continue throughout the evening until 11.59pm that day or until the stock runs out. This £1 us then given back to the customer on their first food shop after signing up to the scheme, the Express reported. Charlotte Waring, a Co-op buyer, said: "As a convenience retailer, we know that we’re there for those little shops at the end of the day, and our new Too Good To Waste initiative is a simple way to help our members save while also reducing food waste – so everyone can enjoy delicious bakery treats and do their bit for the planet." Co-op has also recently rolled out other new benefits for members including its Indian Supersaver Deal, where members can buy two curry mains, two sides and a drink for £10. Co-op is not the only supermarket to carry out a discount food initiative, as Tesco also runs a similar scheme whereby shoppers can get discounted pastries every day after 7pm. This reduction applies to any customer, not just those with a Clubcard.
