Scotland's "best thrift shopping" destination has been named.And it is not either Glasgow or Edinburgh that can be found at the top of the list. With Christmas coming up, people across the country will be looking for cost-effective gift ideas. FlixBus has shared a list of the eight "leading thrift hopping locations" across the UK, where shoppers can find vintage and pre-owned goods. According to the experts, the top destination in Scotland for thrift shopping is Dunfermline in Fife. Scotland's newest city was also named the fifth-best thrifting location in the whole of the UK. Visitors can purchase everything from clothes to homeware and toys, making it an ideal location for getting gifts for the whole family. FlixBus noted that Dunfermline features a wide selection of cosy cafés and acclaimed restaurants, perfect for fuelling up during a shopping spree. Top dining spots in the city include Italian eatery Incontri, Indian specialists Dhoom, and independent café Wynd. The experts also praised the city's heritage , describing it as an "exciting" day trip destination. Among the attractions that were singled out are the historic Dunfermline Abbey and Palace and Pittencrieff Park. FlixBus wrote: "Sustainable shopping and Scottish history? Yes please. "Dunfermline is home to no less than 13 charity shops, each providing a unique blend of pre-loved clothing, homewares, books, toys, and more. Meanwhile, the second and final Scottish destination to be named among the top thrifting locations in the UK is Inverness. The city, which is known as the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands, placed at number six on the overall list. According to FlixBus, there are 11 charity shops dotted around Inverness. The experts noted that the city's thrifting spots are all within easy reach of each other. Inverness was praised for its "super broad appeal" when it comes to second-hand shopping. Its stores were noted for selling vintage books, trinkets and more. The experts stated: "Scotland’s Highland capital is more than just a gateway to Loch Ness, it’s a treasure trove of sustainable shops. "Our study found Inverness is home to 11 charity shops, all easily hoppable from one to the next. From pre-loved books and toys to gifting and clothing, thrifting in Inverness has a super broad appeal." Elsewhere, Frome in Somerset topped FlixBus's overall list of the UK's best thrift shopping locations.
