A shocking case has come to light in the Raichur district of Karnataka, where a Class 9 student was allegedly impregnated by a 25-year-old man who later attempted to force an abortion by giving her pills. According to police, the incident took place in Talekhan village of Maski taluk. The accused, identified as Shivamurthy, 25, a resident of Desayi Bhogapur village, reportedly administered an excessive dose of abortion medication to the minor after learning she was pregnant. Soon after taking the pills, the girl’s health deteriorated rapidly. She was initially admitted to the Lingasugur Government Hospital, where doctors found her haemoglobin level had dropped to a critical 5 and declared that further treatment would be difficult due to her condition. Because of severe internal bleeding, she was referred to the RIMS Hospital in Raichur for advanced medical care. Hospital officials said the girl is currently undergoing treatment and remains under close observation. Following a complaint from the victim’s family, Maski police registered a case and arrested the accused. He has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police officials said an investigation is underway.
