The double homicide is the latest in a string of retaliatory killings that continue to destabilize central Somalia. The victims, identified as Abdullahi Mohamed Lugtii Jiic and his son, Baashi Abdullahi Mohamed Lugtii Jiic, were gunned down in Labi Kooraale, a village under Balanbale district, according to local residents. Witnesses said the assailants were armed men from a rival clan who carried out the attack to avenge a previous killing. The murders have raised tensions in nearby areas, including Balanbale and Gurieel, where local security forces have increased patrols to prevent possible clashes. Residents reported heightened anxiety as rival militias began mobilizing in response to the attack. Clan-based revenge killings have long plagued the Galgaduud and Mudug regions, often erupting over disputes involving land, livestock, and historical grievances. While traditional elders frequently intervene to mediate peace, such efforts rarely produce lasting solutions, and violence often reignites. The Galmudug regional administration has come under growing criticism for failing to stem the wave of clan-related violence despite repeated promises of reconciliation and tighter law enforcement.
