On Tuesday, Nov. 4 the NFL's trade deadline came and went with the Kansas City Chiefs failing to pull off a move for a running back or pass rusher - or anyone else for that matter. General manager Brett Veach reportedly attempted to make a deal for New York Jets running back Breece Hall, but failed to deliver the necessary draft capital. According to SNY’s NFL Insider Connor Hughes, the Chiefs were willing to part with a fourth-round pick in a potential deal for Hall, but the Jets were steadfast in wanting to acquire a third rounder. Following the team's inaction at the deadline, Chiefs and and NFL media members openly questioned the team's approach and how much it will need to rely on star quarterback Patrick Mahomes going forward. No running back. Just Mahomes going to have to carry again," one fan said using an image of a sad SpongeBob. "I think the Brett Veach conversation is fascinating because this franchise has experienced unprecedented success as of late. Patrick Mahomes gets majority of that credit (Veach advocated for him)," added Chiefs writer Mark Gunnels. "Also, Veach rebuilt the defense, offensive line, and now the WR room. However, I think he's become too arrogant when it comes to his drafting, which isn't perfect (no one is). At the end of the day, Veach is a really good GM, but he definitely has flaws. They should've made a move today." Another directly called out Veach's job status by saying, "I swear Veach wouldn’t have a job rn if Mahomes didn’t play for this franchise." "Brett Veach did nothing to help out the two most vulnerable spots on the Chiefs. Still no good running back Still have an underwhelming DL Looking forward to Patrick Mahomes carrying this roster again!" added another. Kansas City's leading rusher, Isiah Pacheco, is dealing with a sprained MCL and was forced to miss a Week 9 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Despite Pacheco being banged up, the Chiefs decided to stand pat at the deadline and not offer reinforcements for their star quarterback.
