Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Shares Powerful Travis Kelce Postgame Message

The Kansas City Chiefs shook off first-half issues to capture a 28-7 victory over the visiting Washington Commanders. In the process, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce linked up for some history, as Kelce scored his 100th touchdown in regular and postseason games. That made Kelce the fourth tight end in NFL history to have scored 100 TDs. It was also his 83rd regular-season TD, which officially tied Kelce with Priest Holmes for the all-time touchdowns record, something he should break this season. Following the game and Kelce's historic achievement, his quarterback called him the "true Chiefs Chief." Mahomes spoke about the tight end's significance to him, since he played there for multiple seasons before Mahomes arrived. He has helped set the culture, what it means to play for Coach Reid, and to play in Kansas City. I was able to come in and have that guy to rely on," he told reporters at the Chiefs' postgame press conference. "He’s breaking all the records now, and he’s all about the team. I want to make sure that he gets that, and hopefully we can get another football for him later in the season after he actually breaks the record," Mahomes said. A special bond remains between the two players, as they continue to win games and make history. Their coach, Andy Reid, also spoke about the significance of Kelce achieving his historic TD during the team's "Monday Night Football game. “It was a compliment to him. There have been some tight ends here over the years. For him to do what he’s done over this amount of time is great,” Reid told reporters." Kelce's historic touchdown arrived in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from Mahomes. The Chiefs' tight end finished the game with six receptions for a season-high 99 yards. Kelce joined an elite group with his touchdown, as only Antonio Gates, HOF Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham have scored 80-plus touchdowns in their careers. While the accolades and records are great, Kelce is more likely happy that Kansas City keeps winning, and moving towards their goal of another Super Bowl appearance and championship. The win moved the Chiefs to 5-3 on the season, keeping them well within the division chase. They're currently tied with the Los Angeles Chargers and right behind the division-leading Denver Broncos. Next up, Kansas City faces a challenging battle as they'll visit Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 2, with a chance for Kelce to take over that touchdown record in a crucial AFC game for the Chiefs.
