The festival also reflects the deep bond between nature and humankind. Through fasting, offering prayers and water to the Sun, and observing purity, devotees express their gratitude for the sustaining energies of the universe. October 26 – Kharna: Observe a day-long fast, breaking it in the evening by offering kheer and roti to Chhathi Maiya before taking your first meal. October 27 – Sandhya Arghya: At sunset, stand knee-deep in clean water, by a river, pond, or ghat—and offer arghya to the setting sun with thekua, fruits, sugarcane, and other offerings.
