The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Legacy Rise Sport, Sharaf Mahama in collaboration with Matchroom Boxing Promotions are set to organize a global boxing event in Ghana as part of efforts to promote the sport. The event is scheduled to take place at Legon Sports Stadium on December 20, 2025.. The headline bout will feature Craig Richards versus Dan Azeez in what promises to be a tough encounter for the light heavyweight title. Scoring 15 goals would be great – Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo Richards (19-4-1, 12 KOs) scored an impressive knockout of then unbeaten Shakan Pitters, setting up major opportunities against Dmitrii Bivol and Joshua Buatsi, where he delivered strong performances. Azeez (22-2-1, 14 KOs) experienced one of the more abrupt falls from grace in recent memory. Once seen as a rising star in the UK’s stacked light heavyweight scene, a rough loss to Joshua Buatsi appeared to have stopped his momentum. Speaking ahead of the bout, Richards said, “I’m so excited for December 20. Ghana has had some great fighters, such as Azumah Nelson, and boxing has had many significant and historic nights in Africa, such as the Rumble in the Jungle. I cannot wait to headline such a massive event, and I plan to put on a statement performance.” Meanwhile, Azeez returns to the continent after defeating Nigeria’s Sulaimon Adeosun in October and is prepared for the bout. “I am looking forward to facing fellow South Londoner Craig Richards in Africa. This fight marks a significant moment for me, two talented boxers from South London taking their rivalry to the motherland. I see this as more than just a contest; it’s a celebration of heritage, hard work, and how far South London boxing has come on the global stage,” said Azeez. The IBF Africa featherweight title will feature John Laryea versus Holy Dorgbetor. Other fights include Ghana’s Theophilus Allotey versus Jayr Raquinel, and Ahmed Abdula taking on Obaro Eradajaye.
