Miguel Freckleton insists St Mirren will be Hampden ready as he prepares for the biggest game of his career tomorrow night. All eyes are on the national stadium as the Buddies face Motherwell in the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. Up to 20,000 fans are expected to descend on Mount Florida with the winners facing Celtic or Rangers in December’s final. A black-and-white army in excess of 8,000 will back Stephen Robinson’s men, who are attempting to emulate the club’s 2013 League Cup winners. The importance of both the match and occasion are not lost on Freckleton, who is hoping to shake off a thigh injury to play, following his summer move from Sheffield United. And while there is dressing-room disappointment at the manner of Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Premiership leaders Hearts, Freckleton believes his Buddies will meet the moment. “The lads are obviously frustrated but I think we’ve got to stay positive because we’ve got a big game on Saturday and it’s a quick turnaround as well,” the 22-year-old from Bristol said. “On Saturday, the lads will be up for it. It’s a big game for the club and obviously for the fans as well. It’s obviously big for me coming from where I came from. “It’s going to be exciting. I’ve got my family coming up – I think nine are taking the flight up – so it will be nice to play in front of them. I’ve never played in a stadium that big, no. “It’s huge for both teams. I think, when everyone heard the draw, they were pretty happy with it. Obviously, that will be one of us in the final against one of the big teams so we’re just looking forward to it.” The stakes couldn’t be higher for Saints and ‘Well given they avoided both sides of the Old Firm in the draw for the last four but Freckleton vowed not to get carried away under the bright lights in the south side of Glasgow. “I’ll try to keep calm,” he added. “Just treat it like it’s another game.” Saints take on the Steelmen encouraged by giving everything against the Jambos. Freckleton netted for the second time this season but had another goal ruled out for an ‘impact offside’ decision made by referee Matthew MacDermid following a VAR check. “We’re frustrated that we didn’t come away with the win,” he said. “But I feel like we held them and did well. We came away with a point but we’re obviously frustrated that we didn’t get all three “I’ve seen it back [the disallowed goal]. The ref said it’s subjectively offside and it’s a rule that I’ve not heard of. But VAR has intervened. We’ve just got to go again, really. It’s a difficult one to take.” Don't miss the latest Renfrewshire headlines – you can sign up to our free daily newsletter here
