Chargers Offensive Lineman Surprisingly Inactive vs. Titans in Week 9

Becton’s absence is a blow for a Chargers offensive line that has been in flux for much of the season. The former first-round pick was signed this offseason to bring size and stability to Justin Herbert’s protection, but lingering knee issues have once again limited his availability. There was reason for optimism entering the weekend — Becton logged limited practices on both Thursday and Friday — but the team ultimately opted for caution. Given Tennessee’s own injury-depleted lineup, the decision appears more about long-term preservation than short-term necessity. Injury History Shadows Becton’s Promise When the Chargers signed Becton, they did so with full awareness of his history. The former top-10 pick had been plagued by injuries during his time with the Jets, finally finding stability last season in Philadelphia after moving to guard. Still, the injury bug seems to have followed him to Los Angeles. Through eight weeks, Becton has posted a 41.0 PFF grade, struggling with consistency and health. His absence Sunday adds to a growing list of setbacks, but with the Titans missing key names such as Jeffery Simmons, Calvin Ridley, and Arden Key, Los Angeles may have the breathing room to manage without him. The hope now is that resting Becton in Week 9 helps him stay healthy for the stretch run — something the Chargers will desperately need if they hope to keep Justin Herbert upright and their playoff hopes intact.
