Chaos on trains as major rail operator says 'do not travel' for whole day

Passengers travelling on LNER rail services have been warned of huge disruption today following a major incident. The train operator have issued a "do not travel" warning for the rest of the day. There is major disruption between Newark Northgate and Retford, which is affecting the whole LNER route, The Daily Star reports. The rail operator updated travellers on X: "#LNERUpdate DO NOT TRAVEL We are experiencing major disruption between #NewarkNorthgate and #Retford today, affecting the whole LNER route. As a result, we are issuing a Do Not Travel notice for the remainder of the day." They added: "We strongly advise against any travel for the rest of the day. LNER tickets dated Monday 10 November are valid for travel up to and including Tuesday 11 November. You don’t need to change or amend your existing ticket." While LNER hasn't explained the reason for the 'do not travel warning', there are reports from some passengers that it is due to a "broken rail". One X user wrote: "apparently there is a broken rail hopefully they will get it fixed in tome for a friend to make his flight at heathrow tomorrow". Meanwhile, a major incident has occurred on a popular motorway as five cars and a van were involved in a crash this morning (November 10). Drivers are facing disruption on the M25 near Chertsey with at least one lane currently closed on the clockwise carriageway before J11 A320 St Peters Way (Chertsey). The incident report read: "Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on M25 clockwise before J11 A320 St Peters Way (Chertsey). Congestion to a mile before Cobham Services, back towards J9 (Leatherhead), and long queues opposite." There has been no reports of any injuries at the moment but National Highways have warned motorists to take extra time to make their journeys. There has also been no information on when the incident will be cleared. Another major UK motorway is also causing server disruption for travellers. The M5 in Devon, going northbound between J27 for Tiverton and J26 for Wellington was due to open at 6am after roadworks. However, work has overrun and will remain closed for much longer. This has seen National Highways issue an urgent warning, as well as a rather long diversion – featuring a nine-mile drive. A spokesman said: “The M5 in Devon is closed northbound between J27 (Tiverton) and J26 (Wellington) due to a planned roadworks that has overrun its agreed completion time of 06:00 due to an issue with the tarmac. "Contractors have advised that the tarmac is taking time to set and is not safe to use at this stage.”
