Mumbai AC Local Runs With Doors Open Amid Rush Hour Chaos: ‘Double Decker Trains Can Solve The Issue’ | Video

Overcrowding on Mumbai’s local trains is a long-standing and severe issue. The local trains remain dangerously jammed despite crores spent on upgrades like new AC coaches and automatic doors. The situation has persisted for decades, driven by a combination of factors related to urban development and infrastructure constraints. In this vein, a video is going viral showing a Central Railway AC local train from Thane to Kalyan running with its doors open. In the now-viral clip, passengers are seen hanging dangerously out of the compartments due to overcrowding, triggering uproar on the internet. Mumbai AC Local Train Running With Open Doors In a post on X, a user shared the video, tagging the Central Railway and Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, which has triggered a serious discussion regarding safety. Reportedly, the chaotic scene took place on Thursday when a Mumbai local train was en route from Thane to Kalyan. Sharing the video, the user wrote, “AC local running with doors open from #Thane towards Kalyan due to overcrowding.” The video shows passengers jammed inside the train, with some having to cling to the edges as it races along the tracks. The strike was initiated when an FIR was filed against two railway engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident, which led to several deaths and injuries. The abrupt work stoppage caused huge disruptions in services, resulting in packed platforms and dangerous travel conditions. Social Media Reactions As soon as the video was shared, it went viral, drawing sharp criticism. “The population is increasing in this city… It’s screaming for help. Not a single Neta in all these decades has done something worthwhile to solve the actual problem,” one user commented. Another said, “Mumbai is overcrowded. It’s not just stations.” “They are normal ticket people, please take action on this type of overcrowding because it’s very dangerous for people,” a user said. “Mumbai is overcrowded. It’s not just stations,” an individual posted. Someone added, “Double decker trains can solve the issue.” Passengers Hit By Local Train Near Sandhurst Road Station Later the same evening, two people were killed and three sustained injuries after being hit by a suburban train near Sandhurst Road railway station. The incident occurred around 7 pm when the victims were walking along the railway tracks, officials said. About June 9 Mumbra Accident In June, the incident occurred between Diva and Mumbra railway stations in Thane district when two trains were passing each other at a sharp curve. During the tragic incident, five individuals lost their lives. Earlier today, a court said that the incident took place because of overcrowding.
