The SFA have appointed the match officials for Celtic’s meeting with Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup Semi Final with Rangers. The Scottish Champions go into the game with Martin O’Neill at the helm after the dramatic resignation of Brendan Rodgers, meaning that the Irishman will face off against Danny Röhl’s Rangers at Hampden. The SFA have confirmed that Nick Walsh has been named as the referee for the latest instalment of the Glasgow Derby. The 34-year-old will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and Frank Connor. Meanwhile, at Clydesdale House, Steven McLean is on VAR duties with Andrew Dallas assisting. Celtic will take confidence from this appointment given the club’s recent record against Rangers at Hampden in games in which Walsh has taken charge. Walsh refereed Celtic’s 2-1 League Cup win over Rangers in Ange’s second season. The followings season, the experienced referee took charge of Celtic’s Scottish Cup Final win over Rangers in which Adam Idah’s late goal secured a Double for Celtic. Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers have now moved on but there may be a further chapter to be added to Martin O’Neill’s Celtic story if he can help Celtic secure passage to the Cup Final next month.
