The Anzalduas International Bridge became a pivotal point in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a significant amount of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of over one million dollars. On a regular day, comparable to any other where vehicles hustle in a constant to and fro across the boundary, the unsuspecting Dodge Ram 1500 pickup attempted to blend in, to pass through from Mexico into the U.S. without incident, on October 27, according to a press release issued by Customs and Border Protection. However, officers selected the vehicle for a more thorough examination using advanced nonintrusive inspection technology. The CBP's meticulous methods paid dividends when the physical inspection revealed 76 concealed packages of what is alleged to be methamphetamine, amassing a total weight of some 115.74 pounds (52.50 kg), the quietude of the hidden menace now laid bare lying within the very shell of the vehicle that carried it, CBP's quick action snatched the narcotics from their path; the vehicle that once harbored them, now detained by the authorities—Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and kicked off a criminal investigation into the incident.
