Imagine this: Since the day you were born, someone within your household has chronicled the events of your life. From teenage embarrassments, marriages and births, obituaries, scandals, bad weather, recoveries, elections, business cycles, tragedies and triumphs, the arts, sports – through it all, the chronicler tells the story…your story. For 60 years the Cayman Compass, in its various forms, has been that chronicler for the modern age of the Cayman Islands. Their free-flowing ink and plenty of pixels continue to convey the resilience of our people by preserving our past, helping us understand our present, and shining a light on our future. By providing context, a sense of balance, and clarity, the Compass’ ethical journalism fortifies us as individuals and a country to carry on. On behalf of Government, I express appreciation for how Compass staff have increasingly held public, private and civic leaders accountable over six decades, with respect but also with fortitude. We thank you for giving voice to the outspoken, the soft-spoken, and particularly the silent. Thank you for confronting Cayman’s challenges frankly, and for celebrating our achievements with genuine joy. We embrace the free press that you represent. Without an ethical free press, transparency would darken, and the collective voice of the people would be hushed. As technology reshapes how news is delivered, your mission remains timeless: Telling the truth, reflecting the community, and keeping us connected. I have no doubt the Cayman Compass will continue to adapt, innovate and serve as a respected source of news for years to come. On behalf of Government as well as the beloved people of Cayman, thank you for your enduring service and we wish you continued success. May your future editions, episodes and issues continue to shine truth and to motivate our lives. Happy 60th anniversary! Hon. André M. Ebanks MP Premier of the Cayman Islands
