Cardiff's most popular takeaway item is revealed

A humble, but tasty, authentic Italian classic is the most popular item for takeaway lovers in Cardiff to order. According to food delivery giant, Deliveroo, the capital's Calabrisella restaurant and its margharita pizza is the most trending food item of 2025. The Italian has three spots around the city, two restaurants and one gelateria. Its homemade pizza was unvelied as Cardiff's favourite after Deliveroo released its much-anticipated annual Deliveroo 100 Report, the ultimate guide to what the UK and the rest of the world is craving. Each year, the report charts the most popular and fastest-rising delivery trends across nine countries, and 2025’s edition shows the UK leading the world. This year, the UK takes the global crown with London’s Papo’s Bagels claiming number one worldwide. A further sixteen UK items feature on the global trending list, with viral hits from 7Bone, Crunch, JENKI, Black Bear Burger, Wingstop, Planet Organic, Wilko and more. Three old friends, Salvatore Vara, Angelo De Meo and Domenico Ventura opened their trio of restaurants in Canton and Cathays after falling in love with the city they arrived in, almost by accident, and are still here 20 years later. They're best known for their authentic pizzas and home-style restaurant dishes, and of course, their made-on-site gelato. Read their full story, here. Deliveroo said the results for 2025 were based on "year-on-year growth of orders to the app, customer rating within the app, and popularity and influence on social media and food culture." Cardiff's Calabrisella features on the Deliveroo Top 100 by city and the capital is the only Welsh place to feature. Deliveroo vice president of regional growth, Jeff Wemyss, said: "Marking our ninth year, the Deliveroo 100 is more than a list - it's a definitive snapshot of global cravings and consumer habits. This year’s list clearly shows the strong connection between communities and their beloved independent restaurants, which sit proudly alongside our favourite chains. We're also seeing an evolution in the way people shop, with non-food orders rapidly growing across the UK. In today's fast-paced world, convenience is a top priority, and we are committed to being the go-to for getting consumers what they need, exactly when they need it."
