But Where Is The Next, Actual ‘Halo’ Game, Xbox?

Halo Infinite My twelve-year-old brain would have exploded yesterday with the announcement that Halo is now heading to PlayStation. But in 2025, it’s more just a shrug and saying “well, of course,” given Microsoft’s sprint toward getting as much of its IP on PlayStation as it can the last few years. The game is a remake of Halo CE, cleverly pitched as “Campaign Evolved,” because it’s…just the campaign, no multiplayer. Shots are circulating of the wild transformation from the OG 2001 game into something resembling a somewhat standard Unreal 5 production. I’m not terribly impressed, though I’ll play it on PlayStation for the novelty. But all of this just felt weird as this was some hyped-up announcement about the “next stage” of Halo, and it was a remake landing on its competitor’s hardware framed as some sort of Peace Accord. I think what everyone, myself included, wanted to know was what the actual next Halo game was going to be, and we simply got nothing on that front from 343 or Xbox. The only thing we got was the announcement that all Halo games would also be on PlayStation going forward. Uh, hooray, I guess. Halo CE Remake Halo Infinite was out four years ago now, and we still have no real indication where things are going from here, other than to PlayStation. With no multiplayer coming with the CE remake, Infinite will be it for who knows how many years. If they’re not even talking about the game, that has to be at least 2-3 more. That would hopefully further the story of Master Chief after his Infinite storyline was aborted, with more story content in that game scrapped. The biggest Halo presence period the last few years has been the Halo Paramount+ show which was…well, just go watch it on Netflix, you’ll see. MORE FOR YOU It has been beyond strange that with Microsoft moving forward with nearly all of its major IPs (minus a few, RIP Perfect Dark) that Halo is being kept on ice this long, and when it has finally returned, it’s a remake heading to PlayStation. Despite all the ups and downs, Master Chief still remains one of the biggest icons in gaming history, as even if Halo has had a rough uh, decade, nostalgia carries his most badass moments through to this day. And I guess we’ll get to relive some of those with a shiny new coat of paint next year. The point being, this was the moment to give any indication of how the series is moving forward from here, not entirely looking to the past while simultaneously dancing around promoting Microsoft’s eye-rolling multiplatform push as it tries to salvage its Xbox division. A CE remake is fine, but Halo deserves more than this. More than the last 15 years. on TwitterYouTube, Instagram Herokiller series The Earthborn Trilogy. Editorial StandardsReprints & Permissions
