The Denver Broncos are still banged up in some key spots, leading to yet another roster move. This time, the Broncos have signed former Washington Commanders third-round draft pick Geron Christian in a mid-season free agency flier. The Broncos are Christian’s sixth team. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, Christian has played in 63 games and logged 25 starts in his seven-plus-season career. Broncos Sign Journeyman OL Geron Christian The No. 74 overall pick of the 2018 draft, Christian’s journey to the Broncos has included stops with the Cleveland Browns (twice), Houston Texans (twice), Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans. “Congratulations to our very own Geron Christian (@geron_christian) on signing a contract with the Denver #Broncos!” Elite Loyalty Sports posted on X on November 10. “Welcome to the Mile High City, GC.” Christian was on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, meaning the Broncos are signing him to their 53-man roster. The Broncos’ current roster stands at 53 players. So, they will need to make a corresponding move to accommodate Christian. Christian played in five games in 2024, splitting the campaign between the Browns and the Rams. He started nine games for the Browns in 2023, though. He also started 14 games between the Commanders in 2020 and the Texans in 2021. Christian was on the Chiefs’ 2022 Super Bowl roster, appearing in 10 games, all in a reserve capacity. He joins a Broncos offensive line that is in flux, providing some indication of how he may fit into head coach Sean Payton and Co.’s plans. Broncos OL Depth Tested With Injuries Before signing Christian, the Broncos lost starting left guard Ben Powers to a torn biceps, placing the latter on injured reserve. In his place, former swing tackle Alex Palczewski has stepped up. The Broncos also lost Matt Peart to IR with a knee injury. They still have second-year former undrafted free agent Frank Crum on their active roster, and rookie UDFA Marques Cox on the practice squad. The Broncos did not suffer any injuries of note against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10. Christian’s role appears destined to be a reserve, possibly logging snaps on special teams and behind Crum and starters Garett Bolles and Mike McGlinchey. The Broncos hope to get Powers back in December, which would allow Palczewski to return to his reserve role at tackle. Broncos Face Chiefs in Critical Week 11 Showdown Christian and the Broncos are facing a stiff challenge in Week 11, with a home date against their AFC West rivals, the Chiefs. Coming out of their bye week, the Chiefs are 5-4 and in third place in the division. They are also coming off a loss to the Buffalo Bills in their last outing. Despite that, Payton has twice made a point noting the significance of this matchup for the Broncos, who are looking to stave off the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs still boast the NFL’s No. 4 scoring defense and the No. 6 overall unit through 10 weeks. They are tied for the sixth-fewest sacks, but they also have the fourth-highest blitz rate, per Pro Football Reference. Regardless of whether or not Christian sees the field, the Broncos must be sharp on Sunday.
