Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix set a high bar for himself after giving Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels a run for his money in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year race last year. And now that Nix has had a few multi-turnover games this season, his mistakes are being criticized more harshly than they were last year. Though the Broncos are 8-2, leading the AFC West and are tied for the best record in the NFL, fans have been overly critical of Nix’s performances the last two weeks (323 combined passing yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, 61.5 passer rating) as Denver’s offense has struggled to put points on the board and move the ball. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) Those recent poor showings have some questioning whether or not Nix could be benched if he has any more underwhelming performances, and FS1’s Colin Cowherd believes Nix may actually be in danger of the Broncos moving on from him altogether. “Sean Payton is a very impatient guy,” Cowherd said on Friday. “He also understands the urgency at quarterback, unlike a lot of coaches in this league. I wonder — because the roster, the O-line is set, the D-line is set, the pass-rush, the receivers — would Sean Payton draft another quarterback? I’m dead serious. “Bo Nix has regressed badly. His completion percentage is now toeing that back-up quarterback line. … His passer rating has plummeted. … He is a significantly worse quarterback this year than last.” More Football: Chiefs Considering Leaving Arrowhead Stadium, Relocating to New State "Would Sean Payton draft another quarterback? But as Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing points out, Cowherd and Payton are close friends, stemming from the latter’s time with Fox Sports during his break from coaching, prompting some to question if Cowherd may be more in the know with this particular situation than some might think. “I look at this and really wonder if Sean Payton is talking to George the GM and saying, ‘We’ve got a stacked roster here, we don’t have a lot of needs — there’s like seven quarterbacks in the first couple of rounds, we may want to roll the dice on them and sit them behind Bo for a year,’” he added.
