Boston Legacy sets home opener for 2026 season

The Boston Legacy will open its home campaign in the National Women’s Soccer League on Saturday, March 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. Boston’s opponent has yet to be announced. In 2026, the NWSL will expand to a 30-game schedule from 26 games in 2025 with the addition of two teams, Boston and the Denver Summit. The season will last 27 weeks, with a planned break from June 1 to 28 to account for the men’s World Cup taking place in a number of NWSL cities, which will tie up stadium access. The league has a break mandated by the CBA in the middle of the season as well. The 2026 season will kick off with the Challenge Cup, staged between the 2025 NWSL champion and the 2025 Shield winner (best regular-season record), on Feb. 20, 2026, with the regular season beginning on March 13. The team has said it expects the stadium to be ready for the 2027 season. The 2025 NWSL postseason begins this weekend with an eight-team playoff. The Kansas City Current earned the No. 1 seed with 65 points and a 21-3-2 record. The Washington Spirit, which lost the 2024 championship to the Orlando Pride, is the No. 2 seed. The Portland Thorns and Pride are Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. The championship will be played in San Jose, Calif., on Nov. 22 at PayPal Park — home of expansion team Bay FC, which began play in 2024.
