The number has rocketed to record levels in the UK — with almost half of British blokes now suffering from hair loss . In 2017, just under 30% of fellas were ‘bald or balding’, which soared to 40% in 2022 — and now, three years later, is estimated to be 45%. With around 33m fellas in the UK, that works out at a hair-raising 14.8m who already look like billiard balls or are thinning on top. Some men start losing their hair as early as 15, and boffins predict that two-thirds of men will eventually be affected by baldness as a result of health issues or something else. They say that genetics, stress, weight loss, iron deficiency and illness all contributed to chaps losing their barnet - more now than ever before. A study of 2,000 fellas found that fellas from the north west of the country - Liverpool and Manchester - were most likely to be chrome domes, with 52%. Those from the West Midlands - Birmingham and Coventry - were least likely to be slapheads, with just 36% saying they were losing their hair - or had lost it already. Despite many men finding going bald stressful, women often says they prefer a shiny bonce, with baldy sex symbols including Prince William, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, and Dwayne Johnson. In a poll by married dating site Illicit Encounters , just over 40% of women said they found baldies more attractive than hairy chaps like Tom Selleck or High Jackman. Josh Cunningham, 37, of Maidstone, Kent, said he started losing his hair when he was in his mid-20s. He said: “When I first started losing my hair I was devastated and used to wear a baseball hat all the time. A girlfriend eventually told me to embrace it and shave it all off, and now I’m a proud baldy.” He added: “It hasn’t done me any harm when it comes to dating as most women love giving my head a rub, even ones I don’t know sometimes.” Caroline Woods, 37, of Pinner, north west London, said she loved a ‘baldy head’. She said: “When I was in my 20s I’d never have even considered going out with a bald bloke, but since I hit my 30s I’ve been more and more attracted to a bald head. I think it was after seeing Prince William embrace his baldness that I started seeing bald men differently.” She added: “The last three guys I’ve dated have been bald, and my current boyfriend’s hair is on its way out - and I’ve told him it makes him even more attractive to me.” In 2015, Locomotion singer Kylie Minogue said she was sick of going out with good-looking men and was on the lookout a baldie to date. The stunner, who has dated hunks like INXS singer Michael Hutchence, actor Oliver Martinez and model Andres Valencoso, said at the time: “I don’t mind bald or balding. I don’t even mind a bit of a paunch.” Jessica Leoni, of Illicit Encounters, said: “Far from being a turn‑off, a shiny dome is now a badge of confidence and sex appeal. “While some men see a receding hairline, women see a distinguished, no-fuss man who knows how to focus his energy on more important things than a haircut. If you are one of millions of bald blokes in the UK, don’t hide it away, embrace it …the future is smooth, gentlemen, and it’s looking very bright!” For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters .
