London is a hotspot for ghosts - with it home to some of the most haunted spots in the UK. Spooky stats show the places where you are most likely to see a ghostly apparition pass by - with the Tower of London topping the list. The tourist favourite has been named as the most haunted spot in Britain with thousands swearing that they have stumbled upon the supernatural while visiting. A survey of 2,000 Brits say they have felt creeped out at a number of British spots - including palaces, ancient villages and cemeteries. The Tower of London was the top spot where people said they felt uneasy, with the historic royal spot said to be haunted by 13 spirits, with 26% of people claiming to have felt a presence around them. The most ghosts have been spotted on Tower Green, where Anne Boleyn is said to have been seen carrying her own head, near the site of her execution. Second on the list of the scariest haunts is Hampton Court Palace, with 16% of tourists saying they have felt a presence while stalking around Henry VIII’s former home. The haunted gallery in the Palace is said to be where Catherine Howard’s ghost has been seen running down the corridor screaming. In third spot is Highgate Cemetery in North London, home to the Highgate Vampire, followed by Bodmin Jail in Cornwall, home to the ‘Wailing Woman’, the ghost of Selina Wadge, who was the last woman to be hanged there in 1878. Other scary spots include Pendle Hill in Lancashire, historic home of witches in the trials in 1612 and Pluckley in Kent, known as England’s most haunted village, thanks to the Screaming Man and other restless spirits. Paolo Ronco, Deputy Managing Director of Drivalia , who carried out the study, said: “The research shows that as a nation we're a bunch of thrill seekers, whether it's hunting ghosts at the Tower of London, looking for the Highgate Vampire in North London, exploring the UK's most haunted village in Kent or hunting out family friendly pumpkin patches. “Travelling by car can be one of the easiest ways to get to these events across the UK, and with Drivalia, which has prime car rental locations nationwide, customers can choose from a range of first-class vehicles, whether it’s a small, urban run-about or a high-end vehicle, to meet your journey’s needs.” The poll also found that 28% say they regularly feel a presence in the back seat of their car when they are driving.
