A British holidaymaker has been killed after falling 20ft from a balcony in the Canary Islands. A fellow British tourist was also left severely injured after the railing reportedly broke away. It is unknown if the two people are related. An investigation into the maintenance of the balcony railing and hotel security has now been opened by the Spanish Civil Guard, The Sun reports. The name of the hotel has not yet been released to the media. Police and ambulance vehicles attended the scene after reports a person had fallen to their death. Paramedics confirmed one person dead at the scene, while another was stabilised and taken to hospital. The latest tragedy follows several other falls which have claimed the lives of British tourists. In July, it was reported a 25-year-old British tourist died after falling from a hotel balcony in a popular tourist area of Malta. Emergency services rushed to the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julian early on Friday morning, where they found the man’s body on the ground outside the building. A medical team was called to the scene on Triq Spinola, on the island’s eastern coast, but the Welshman was pronounced dead shortly after. And in July last year, a 22-year-old man was killed in a fall from a balcony in Antalya, Turkey. The man was said to have fallen from the fifth floor of his hotel room in the popular tourist hotspot while on holiday with his 33-year-old girlfriend. Police and paramedics were called to the hotel in the district of Alanya, and the man was taken to hospital.
