Brandon Claybon may have become a household name thanks to his role on CBS’s newest soap opera Beyond the Gates, but the actor recently revealed he was originally supposed to join another daytime drama and even break up a beloved super couple. In a recent interview with former soap opera publicist Alan Locher on his YouTube series, The Locher Room, Claybon reflected on his early experiences with daytime television. Before landing his breakout role as Martin Richardson, Claybon revealed he was up for a series regular part on fellow CBS soap The Young and the Restless. Claybon explained that his potential storyline would have paired him opposite Mishael Morgan’s character, Hilary Curtis. “I was supposed to play her love interest, but something happened, she died, and I think the baby died too in a car accident,” he recalled. “My role went up in thin air after that.” Morgan’s character Hilary was one half of the fan-favorite couple “Hevon”, opposite Bryton James’s character Devon Hamilton, making Claybon’s potential casting especially buzzworthy among The Young and the Restless fans. Morgan would later return to the soap opera as Hillary’s long-lost twin sister Amanda Sinclair in 2019. Still, for the actor landing a soap role was always part of the plan. “It was always my goal to be on a soap opera,” he said. “That started back in 2017 or 2018, I believe. Yeah. So, I think it’s meant to be.” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 Claybon did make his daytime debut on a different soap opera, appearing as Brent Snyder on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital in 2023. The short-term role, which he hinted on TikTok was meant to expand, ultimately didn’t move forward. The actor appeared on multiple primetime series, including 9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, and Zatima.
