Jeff Anderson was narrowly leading in the race for the Boulder Valley school board District E seat, based on early results Tuesday night. Jeff Anderson had 50.1% of the vote and opponent Deann Bucher had 49.9%, according to initial results as of 7:45 p.m. from Boulder, Broomfield and Gilpin counties. The winner will replace incumbent Beth Niznik, who didn’t run for reelection. District E represents Louisville and east Boulder. Anderson is a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research who serves as the co-chairperson of the school district’s Long Range Advisory Committee and served on school and district accountability committees. He has said the most important issue facing the school district is how to continue providing the best education to all students during a time of declining enrollment and budget uncertainty. He also promised to make hard, data driven decisions. Bucher, who ran unsuccessfully for the school board in 2021, retired from teaching social studies at Louisville’s Monarch High School and now works at Fusion Academy in Louisville. She has said the district’s biggest budget challenge is shrinking enrollment, which means less state funding. The value that’s most important to her in guiding the budget, she has said, is that resources are distributed equitably. The other two Boulder Valley school board races are uncontested. Incumbent Nicole Rajpal, the current board president, will represent District B. Representing District F is Ana Temu Otting, who owns Corazón Printing, is a pro-immigrant policy advocate and serves on the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. School board members represent different geographic areas but are elected by voters in the entire district.
