Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is expected to give the city's first-ever "State of the Schools" address on Tuesday evening. During her remarks, the mayor is expected to lay out "ambitious goals", set high academic expectations and push for progress for the oldest public school district in the country. According to the city's website, Wu will also use the time to celebrate Boston's educators at a time, as she says, public education is under attack. The vent will come a little more than two weeks after the release of Boston Public Schools' standardized testing results, which revealed that the city's students have not fully recovered from COVID-era learning loss. In fact, the district remains behind testing performance from 2019. There are positives to highlight, too, like a five-year reduction in chronic absenteeism, a five-year high in English proficiency rates and building upgrades. Wu will deliver her speech at 7 p.m. at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Chinatown.
