On Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff selection committee revealed its first rankings of the season, and it was not without a little controversy. However, Booger McFarland and Joey Galloway felt the top three teams should have been different. The selection committee ranked 8-0 Ohio State at No. 1, 9-0 Indiana at No. 2, and 8-0 Texas A&M at No. 3. (Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images) More News: LSU Linked to Ultimate Anti-Brian Kelly Candidate While all three teams are unbeaten heading into Week 11, McFarland thought the Aggies’ resume was more impressive than what the Buckeyes have done through their first eight contests. “I think Texas A&M’s resume, the way they look, what they’ve done, deserve to be number one,” McFarland said. “And I think when you look at Indiana going on the road to (Autzen Stadium) and beat Oregon, they even had an opportunity. I would put them number one. “I don’t know if I put Ohio State at number one based on what they’ve done. Now, they still have road in front of them, but to Joey’s point, Indiana, Texas A&M, I think they’ve done more so far.” The Buckeyes did have the most impressive win to start the season, defeating then-No. 1 Texas 14-7 at home in Week 1. (Texas was ranked No. 11 by the committee on Tuesday.) OSU’s only other ranked contest was against then-No. 17 Illinois, and Ohio State won 34-16 on the road. Galloway thinks the Aggies should be ranked over the Hoosiers and Buckeyes because of analytics. He criticized the committee for going off an “eye test” instead of other metrics. “That’s why I wanted to see this ranking, because this tells me that they’re going a lot on eye test here,” Galloway said. “Because if we’re going on rankings and analytics, Texas A&M is best analytically over Indiana and Ohio State, and they’re sitting at three–so they’re going a lot off of eye test. “And when you start telling me we’re going off eye test, freeze, now all of a sudden we have no idea where this thing is going. Because when you talk resume, you talk about who’s their best win.” Texas A&M’s best win came in a 41-40 win over Notre Dame in Week 3. The Irish were ranked No. 10 on Tuesday. The Aggies’ only other win over a ranked opponent came on Oct. 25 when they blew the doors off then-No. 20 LSU 49-25.
