The competition is fierce, with sunny destinations competing for the top spot as the best places to go to for winter sun. Many travellers will be looking for budget trips at this time of year, too. Especially in the run-up to Christmas, you might be looking to save cash for presents and all the festivities in the winter season. Now, the best-value destination for winter sun has been revealed - and it is likely somewhere you've never visited before. Tunisia has been handed the title of best-value winter-sun destination for the 2025-26 season. The North African country takes the top spot in Thomas Cook's ranking. Unlike its well-known neighbour Morocco, Tunisia is less crowded with tourists, and could offer and excellent yet well-priced getaway this winter. This was shortly followed by Malta, known for its blend of magnificent scenery, culture and history. Coming in fourth was, unsurprisingly, Italy - with famous cities such as Rome and Venice as well as quieter spots in the Tuscan countryside, the country has much to offer. New data from the online travel agency has revealed a major shift in British winter holiday habits. Bookings for winter-sun breaks longer than 15 days are now up 120 per cent year-on-year. The analysis ranked the best-value destinations for winter sun between November 2025 and April 2026, based on average booking values to destinations known for their warm weather and sunshine. Nicholas Smith, holidays digital director at Thomas Cook, said: 'Tunisia's combination of warm weather, great resorts and unbeatable value has made it a standout choice this winter. 'But what's really interesting is how many customers are opting for longer holidays at this time of year, with Brits looking to stretch their time and money further in the sun.'
