The Indian Railways (IR) has approved the launch of a second direct Superfast train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai nearly 30 years after the introduction of the Udyan Express. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) thanking Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for fulfilling a long-standing public demand. “I had requested the Railway Minister for this train which has been a long-pending demand. This Superfast train will operate via the central Karnataka route—covering Tumakuru Davanagere Haveri Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi—to reach Mumbai. It will benefit lakhs of passengers improve rail connectivity and give a major boost to trade and commerce” Joshi said. He added that for the past three decades there has been a strong demand for another direct Superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai apart from the existing Udyan Express. Bengaluru-Mumbai New Superfast Train: Route and Stoppages The new train will run through central Karnataka halting at the following key stations: Davanagere Hubballi-Dharwad The detailed schedule frequency and start date are expected to be announced soon by the Railways. Bengaluru-Mumbai New Superfast Train to cut time travel The new Superfast train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai is expected to cut travel time by nearly 18 hours unlike the existing Udyan Express which takes about 23 hours and 35 minutes to cover the 1136 km distance. The Udyan Express is the only direct train currently connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai operating via the Bengaluru–Guntakal–Solapur route. The Udyan Express covers a distance of 1153 km in about 23 hours and 35 minutes and runs daily between the two cities. It makes 31 stops along its journey.
